I grew up with T & W (Terwilliger & Wakefield) ice cream, which was sold in supermarkets and at their retail outlet off Route 17 on Ridgewood Rd, which is also where they made their products, and which was always very busy in the summer.

About ten years ago I looked them up online and I found they had been involved in some lawsuit - I forget the details but it sounded messy - in the late 1970s, but I was not able to discover how the lawsuit ended. Was the lawsuit responsible for their demise?

My first job after high school, 1967! a few years later T&W sold just the store to Jack and Norm, 2brothers who had been the store managers. Few years after that, they had a falling out and the place now belonged only to Jack, shortly afteword some company bought the land and tyhe store from Jack and put up a huge office bldg. Jack was the nicer of the 2 brothers and he did well in the buyout!

I was raised in Ridgewood more than 50 years ago and preferred Van Dyke's to Twilliger and Wakefield (T&W) ice cream. Van Dykes Ice Cream is still in operation today.
