Nationwide Accident Repair Services Ltd has announced that it is extending its services to provide automotive body and glass repairs on driveways and car-parks across the UK, through two distinct, impressively equipped fleets of vans: one handling glass repairs and replacements, Nationwide Motorglass, and another containing the very latest, cutting-edge equipment and technology for bodywork repairs, Nationwide Mobile Restore.

These new mobile services are designed to support Nationwide’s 71 repair centres plus the accident management services provided to businesses. They offer high quality, professional repairs guaranteed by Nationwide - at a time and place convenient to the customer.

With insurance excess on the rise, car owners and fleet managers are becoming far less likely to go to their insurer for minor damage. Although there are already ‘smart’ repairers in the marketplace, Nationwide’s mobile offering is far more sophisticated and capable. The specially trained Mobile Restore engineers can handle repairs which can be completed in a day and consist of up to two panels, and the Motorglass technicians can cope with every piece of glass on any car or light-commercial vehicle - from a TATA to a Ferrari - and, inline with Nationwide’s environmental policies, they will always aim to repair rather than replace. This is more cost effective for the customer, and far better for the environment.

For businesses and fleet operators, Nationwide’s mobile solutions offer value for money and can dramatically reduce vehicle off road (VOR) time and administration. For car owners, the service ensures that people can have their windscreens replaced or repaired, or bumps and chips removed, at clear, up-front prices by a trusted vehicle repairer, at a convenient location and time.

Nationwide is the largest automotive repairer in the UK, but this move will make the organisation a relatively new name in the world of dedicated glass repairs. However, Nationwide Motorglass and Mobile Restore both benefit from the wealth of experience within the company, the extra-ordinary level of training and qualification required, and a responsive logistics strategy, which means booking are made centrally but are fulfilled by the van which can get to the customer quickest – not just the one within a 25 mile radius or particular geographical territory.

Every mobile van, which costs around £40, 000 to prepare, contains extensive, state-of-the-art equipment and technology including a self-contained repair capsule to ensure work can be carried out throughout the year. The van’s engine generates the power for the extraction system, repair capsule and spraying equipment, and all the fumes created are extracted and stored safely to ensure environmental standards. Despite the extensive equipment on board, the vans only take the trained engineers ten minutes to set up on site.

However, the exceptional level of customer care does not relate purely to the quality of the vehicles. Nationwide has more Thatcham BSI Kitemarked bodyshops (PAS125) than any other organisation in the UK and the business is working towards ensuring all the vans in the mobile fleet are PAS125 approved by the end of 2010. In addition, the skill set and experience of the technicians recruited to operate the vans is higher than the industry standard: all technicians must be qualified to at least NVQ2 standard and must have the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA). All have further in-house training after recruitment.

“One of the main benefits of our mobile services at Nationwide is that we have the back-up of the 71 body-shops.” Explained Gary Nicholls, Operation Director – Mobile at Nationwide. “Unlike other small mobile repair businesses where there is no physical body-shop back-up, our engineers would never be tempted to repair damage that really is unsuitable for handling on a driveway. We’ve seen the result of these repairs, and our customers have the benefit of knowing they are being honestly advised and fairly treated. We are unbiased and professional – so if we think that a repair needs to go into a centre we will let the customer know, and arrange all the logistics – with minimum inconvenience and fuss.”

Steve Thompson, the Managing Director of Nationwide Services Limited, came up with the original concept of the mobile fleet, “We originally investigated creating a mobile fleet of automotive glass and body-repair vehicles to support the insurance companies directly, ” said Steve, “however we have had lots of interest from other fleet operators in particular and we already have considerable experience in the end-of-life and rental sectors, as we already work within defleet centres across the UK. Nationwide’s mobile services can reduce the timescale of the repairs and can save money – and this makes it the perfect partner for the accident management services we already offer.”
